Stop Marketing Junk Food to Our Children: One Day Left to Make Your Voice Heard; Sign The Petition
|
action alert!
You only have 1 day left to make your voice heard! Tell the USDA you don’t want unhealthy food to be advertised in schools.
The USDA already limits what food schools can sell in an effort to encourage healthy eating habits among students. But companies continue to advertise the exact same junk food that has been banned on school grounds. Luckily, First Lady Michelle Obama and the USDA aren’t having it. They’ve proposed some commonsense guidelines that prevent schools from marketing food and beverages they’re not allowed to sell. The comment period for these guidelines ends on the 28th, so make sure to write in support of them right away. There’s a perverse irony in marketing a product you can’t sell, especially when your target audience is made up of schoolchildren. It sends a mixed message to students about smart eating choices and can undermine the efforts parents are making to keep their kids healthy. Promoting healthy living habits isn’t only about what foods we give to our children, it’s about the messages we send them — and advertisers know how to send some pretty powerful messages. Take action before April 28th and sign the petition to eliminate junk food marketing in schools.
