Sec’y of State Jesse White Urges Illinoisans to be Heroes by Joining the Organ/Tissue Donor Registry
White will honor Malcolm X College for its commitment to registering new donors
April is National Donate Life Month. Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White will show the Secretary of State’s new organ and tissue donation commercial, spotlighting heroes. The campaign shows that everyone can be a hero by registering to become an organ/tissue donor.
Malcolm X College President Dr. Anthony Monroe, college officials and students as well as a living organ donor will be in attendance.
The event will be held Monday, April 21st, 1 p.m., at Malcolm X College, 1900 W. Van Buren St., in the Cultural Center Room.
White is traveling the state as well as working with organizations to promote the importance of organ and tissue donation. White is teaming up with community colleges statewide for the “Be a Hero†public awareness campaign, offering students the opportunity to create their own campaigns and earn community service hours while promoting the Organ/Tissue Donor Registry.
In Illinois, more than 5.5 million people have signed up for the registry, but every year about 300 people die waiting for their gift of life.
Malcolm X College is committed to this life-saving program, and is participating in Secretary White’s “Be a Hero†campaign.
