Dorothy Tucker of CBS 2 To Receive Better Business Bureau Excellence In Media Award
Chicago, IL – Dorothy Tucker, reporter at CBS 2 Chicago, will receive the Diogenes Award for Excellence in Media from the Better Business Bureau serving Chicago and Northern Illinois (BBB) at the 87th Annual Dinner, being held at the Chicago Downtown Marriott on Thursday, March 20, 2014.
“The BBB Diogenes Award for Excellence in Media is presented to a news reporter who exemplifies the goals and principles of the Better Business Bureau to support and foster an ethical marketplace benefiting both consumers and businesses,” said Steve J. Bernas, president & CEO of the Better Business Bureau serving Chicago and Northern Illinois.
The BBB Diogenes Award is named after the ancient Greek philosopher, Diogenes, who was said to have traveled the streets of Athens with a lantern looking for an honest man.
Tucker reports for the station’s 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 10 p.m. weekday newscasts. She is also the station’s consumer reporter, covering issues and trends to help consumers avoid scams. She joined CBS 2 Chicago from KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh, where she was a general assignment reporter and talk show host.
A recipient of numerous awards, Tucker has received nine local Emmys, including one for breaking news reports during the 2008 NIU shootings and two for work of CBS 2 Chicago’s 2003 and 2004 broadcasts of the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. She was nominated twice (1994 and 1987) by the Chicago Association of Black Journalists with the Outstanding Television Reporting Award. Dorothy has also received a national UPI Spot News Award.
Tucker is a board member of NABJ-Chicago (National Association of Black Journalists). She served as co-chair of the Katrina fundraiser to raise money for hurricane survivors who are making Chicago their new home.
She graduated from Northwestern University with honors, with a B.S. in Communications. She is a member of Northwestern University’s Council of One Hundred.
