JEANETTE RANKIN WOMEN’S SCHOLARSHIP FUND GIVING SCHOLARSHIPS TO LOW INCOME WOMEN
Nationwide (BlackNews.com) – The Jeannette Rankin Women’s Scholarship Fund (JRF) provides scholarships and support for low-income women 35 and older to build better lives through college completion. They give financial awards without regard to race, creed, religion, color, ancestry, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, national origin, or disability.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S., must be pursuing a technical or vocational education, an associate’s degree, or a first bachelor’s degree, and must match JRF’s low-income eligibility – which is based on the student’s estimated household income for the coming school year. Their income guidelines come from the Department of Labor’s Lower Living Standard.
In 1978, the Jeannette Rankin Foundation awarded one scholarship in the amount of $500. Since that time, JRF has awarded more than $1.8 million in scholarships to more than 700 women. The deadline to apply this year is March 1, 2014.
