CHICAGO, IL – The CineYouth Festival, presented by Cinema/Chicago and the 49th Chicago International Film Festival, announces this year’s Opening Night special guest actor, writer and director John Francis Daley. Opening Night takes place Thursday May 9 at Columbia College Chicago (1104 South Wabash, 8th floor). Daley will speak about his career and his upcoming projects and will join the audience for a post-conversation reception. Opening Night presentation is free and open to the public. Originally from Wheeling, IL, Daley began his rise to fame as Sam Weir in the critically acclaimed, Judd Apatow-produced television series Freaks and Geeks. For the past six years he has been one of the stars of the Fox series Bones. Daley and his writing partner Jonathan Goldstein have penned numerous screenplays for recent hits, including Horrible Bosses, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, arriving in theaters in September. Daley can be seen next as the lead alongside Anna Kendrick in Lionsgate’s Rapturepalooza, due out June 7.

“We are so honored to have John back in Chicago to kick off the 9th annual CineYouth,” says Rebecca Fons, Education Program Manager at Cinema/Chicago and CineYouth Festival Director. “John has, and continues to be, an exciting and fresh voice in the industry. We look forward to him sharing his experience with our Opening Night audience.”
