13 Year prison sentence for Berwyn doctor convicted of Criminal Sexual Assault
A family practice physician has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for sexually assaulting a female patient during an examination in 2005, according to the office of Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.
Ricardo Arze, 59, was convicted by a jury in May 2012 of Criminal Sexual Assault for attacking a 48 year-old woman in his Berwyn office in 2005.
According to prosecutors, on March 24, 2005, the victim, who was a patient of the defendant, came to his medical office at 6925 West Cermak for a follow up visit and to get a return to work note after an illness. Arze told the victim he was going to examine her. The victim thought that Arze was going to examine her lungs and lay back on the examination table.  Instead of examining the victim, the defendant sexually assaulted the woman. The victim reported the incident after Arze was arrested and charged with three similar cases in 2007.  Those cases are currently pending.
Cook County Judge Noreen Love sentenced Arze to the 13 year prison term during a hearing at the Maywood Courthouse.
State’s Attorney Alvarez thanked Assistant State’s Attorney Sabra Ebersole, of the West Side Community Justice Center, for her handling of the case.
