Clifford Law Offices was retained on behalf of the family of a couple that was killed last week when more than two dozen derailed cars of a Union Pacific train fell from an overpass and crushed their car on the street below.

Robert A. Clifford, senior partner at Clifford Law Offices, has been retained by the family of Zorine and Burton Lindner who were killed in the tragedy.  His nationally renowned personal injury and wrongful death law firm will look into the cause of last week’s derailment of a train carrying coal over Shermer Road near Willow Road in the northern suburb of Glenview.

Judge William Maddux, Presiding Judge of the Law Division of the Cook County Circuit Court, issued an order Friday to stop all clean-up work for 36 hours. Union Pacific, defendant in the case, petitioned the court for removal of the state court case to federal court.

The Lindners were traveling on Shermer at about 1:30 p.m.  when the tragedy occurred. Services for the couple were held Sunday at a Deerfield synagogue. The Linders were married 47 years and had two children and four grandchildren. Burton Lindner was a well respected Chicago lawyer and Zorine Lindner was a retired school counselor.
