Illinois AFL-CIO makes endorsements for General Election

Delegates from all unions and all areas of the state Illinois AFL-CIO met recently to endorse candidates for the General Election.

More than 100 delegates to the state federation’s Committee on Political Education met in Springfield to discuss the election and who the organization would be supporting. The Executive Board then approved the endorsements.

Congressional candidates in high profile races such as Tammy Duckworth (8th), Brad Schneider (10th), Bill Foster (11th), David Gill (13th) and Cheri Bustos (17th) were endorsed.

“Congress hasn’t been the most worker friendly place and we have a chance to  help elect some people who can change the mindset,” said Illinois AFL-CIO President Michael T. Carrigan. “With our endorsements comes our political program that will include member to member outreach at the worksite, at the doorstep and on the phone. Tens of thousands of union families live in these districts. We are hitting the ground running to get these candidates in office and working toward rebuilding the middle class in Illinois and across this country.”

Coordinators will be assigned to work with local labor leaders in the congressional districts to schedule precinct walks, phone banks and local union outreach.
