CineYouth Film Festival Accepting Submissions

CHICAGO, IL – Filmmakers 21 years old and younger are invited to submit their short films to the Chicago International Film Festival’s yearly CineYouth Festival, held May 31 – June 2, 2012.

 

Celebrating its 8^th year, CineYouth showcases 100 short films from around the world in categories including drama, comedy, animation, documentary and horror. 2011 welcomed filmmakers as young as seven years old, and its top “Best of the Fest” prize went to a 19-year-old Michigan student. “We are continually astounded by the talent, skill and imagination of these filmmakers. Their films inspire us”, says Rebecca Fons, CineYouth Festival Director.

With film submissions arriving from as far away as Mumbai and as local as Chicago, CineYouth celebrates the filmmakers of tomorrow. “The creative young filmmakers behind the films selected for CineYouth might very well be the filmmakers featured at a future Chicago International Film Festival,” says Fons. 

Free and open to the public, CineYouth also presents a strong educational component, including panel discussions on film school and distribution, workshops on scriptwriting and reel building and a motion capture demonstration. All events take place at Columbia College Chicago (1104 South Wabash, 1600 South State). 

CineYouth is currently accepting entries. Films must be ten minutes or less. All submissions must be postmarked by April 12, 2012. A full screening and event schedule will be announced in late April.

Winning films are presented at a special presentation during the 48^th Chicago International Film Festival.
