Lt. Governor Simon to celebrate birthday by early voting
Urges Illinois citizens to join her in the democratic process
Â
CARBONDALE, IL – If Lt. Governor Sheila Simon gets her birthday wish, more people will follow her to the ballot box and cast an early vote this year. Simon will celebrate her birthday Tuesday by going to Carbondale City Hall to early vote in the General Primary Election.
Calling democracy a “participatory sport,†Simon is urging all Illinois citizens to take advantage of the opportunity to early vote. Nearly 72,000 Illinois residents cast a ballot between the first day of early voting, February 27, and March 12 this year.
“Unlike cooking where too many cooks can spoil the broth, democracy is only strengthened when more people get involved,†Simon said. “These days voters not only can vote on Election Day, but they can vote early. I urge all citizens to take advantage of the opportunity to help shape our state and the country.†Â
The General Primary Election will be held Tuesday, March 20. Democrat and Republican voters will have the opportunity to choose their party’s nominees for various county offices, seats in the General Assembly and Congress, and President of the United States.Â
Voters have until Thursday, March 15, to early vote and must bring one form of valid identification such as a driver’s license or other government-issued ID. Voters with absentee ballots can vote in person until March 19.
For more information on how to vote, how to register to vote and where to vote, please visit the Illinois State Board of Elections website at www.elections.il.gov or contact your local County Clerk’s office.Â
