Tour Visits Three Bars and Stays Primarily Indoors

CHICAGO, IL – For February only, Chicago Detours will offer their new “Good Times Historic Bar Tour,”  a walking tour which takes place 95% indoors and shares hidden history around the Mag Mile area. Tour visits the present and former spots of grand balls, Jazz Age shows, elite soirees, speakeasies, theater performances, and more, as Chicago Detours founder Amanda Scotese shares stories of both scandalous and wholesome forms of entertainment. Guests share iPads with historic photos and video clips, and tickets include light appetizers.

This top-rated tour company, which has five-star ratings on both Yelp and TripAdvisor, will offer the February run as an antidote to the cold weather and a great pre-dinner activity during Restaurant Week.

Tour stops include the famous Billy Goat Tavern, Phil Stefani’s 437 (once a jazz club and speakeasy), and Lawry’s Restaurant (a 19th-century mansion). Groups also go inside the recreational fantasy for a social club that is now the magnificent Intercontinental Hotel.

Schedule for February 1-29: Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays 5:45pm-8:00pm. Guests must be 18 or over, and reservations are required. February 4th has two spots remaining, February 11th is sold-out, and all tours are expected to fill up quickly.
Tour starts inside Argo Tea at 435 N. Michigan Ave (Tribune Tower), ends at 100 E. Ontario (inside Lawry’s) and includes guide commentary, shared use of iPads with photos and video clips, light appetizers, and valuable gift packets. Cost is $29 for regular tickets, $27 for students and seniors. Guests are advised to bring cash for drinks.

To celebrate the launch, Chicago Detours is running a photo contest, which ends at 11:59pm this Saturday, January 21st. Grand Prize is an all-inclusive private “Good Times Historic Bar Tour,” a $1,000 value tour package that includes drinks and all gratuities. Contestants must share a digital photograph that creatively expresses their idea of a “good time” in Chicago. Image submissions accepted through an app on the Chicago Detours Facebook Page.

While the public tours are scheduled only for February, this fun, cultural tour will always be available for private group tours. Chicago Detours can accommodate family reunions, birthday parties, and corporate group outings with the “Good Times Historic Bar Tour.” Interested parties can email amanda@chicagodetours.com or call 312.350.1131 for the private tours catalog.
