Subpoenaed anti-war activists to speak to press about breaking legal developments

Chicago, IL –  The Committee Against Political Repression will hold a solidarity vigil at 8:30 am on Tuesday, October 5 to be followed by a 9 am press conference where subpoenaed anti-war and international solidarity activists will speak to the press about breaking developments in the grand jury proceedings.  The vigil and press conference are part of a national day of action in response to a series of FBI raids that took place on September 24 in Chicago and around the US. The raids targeted anti-war activists and solidarity activists in at least three states, including activists in Chicago.

The FBI handed subpoenas to testify before a federal grand jury to about a dozen activists in Illinois, Minnesota and Michigan, searching the homes of most of these activists. They also attempted to intimidate activists in California and North Carolina.

At least sixty rallies and demonstrations were held around the country last week to say that these raids will not intimidate the anti-war movement; to express solidarity with those targeted by this outrageous breach of basic rights; and to reaffirm that they are committed to building the movement towards peace and justice at home and abroad. Tuesday’s solidarity vigil and press conference in Chicago will follow a national call-in day to Attorney General Eric Holder to call off the grand jury proceedings and end the harassment of anti-war and international solidarity activists.
