Chicago, IL – State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez yesterday joined Governor Pat Quinn for the signing of the Illinois Safe Children Act, a sweeping new law designed to protect children who are caught up in the sex trafficking trade.

The Illinois Safe Children Act will dramatically change the way the criminal justice system treats juveniles who are caught up in the sex trade and ensure that they are provided with social services. The bill, which was drafted by the Alvarez Administration, will also provide enhanced penalties for those charged with prostituting juveniles and will give law enforcement new resources to attack the organized criminal rings that are engaging in these crimes.
