In the office’s continuing efforts to enhance community involvement and awareness, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez, along with members of the office’s Advisory Councils, presented a one day seminar on programs and services aimed to empower community organizations and youth.

“Saving our Youth: A Community Approach”, was the theme for the 2nd annual Unity Conference, held in commemoration of Unity Month.  The conference gave participants the opportunity to hear presentations and seminars highlighting services offered by the State’s Attorney’s office and to interact with community organizations and agencies that focus on ideas and strategies to address issues affecting our youth and communities.

Also during the conference, State’s Attorney Alvarez presented the Community Empowerment Award to Adam Alonzo, Director of Corazón Community Services in Cicero.  Corazón Community Services provides programs for families, youth and children aimed at improving the quality of life while being presented in a culturally sensitive environment.

The 2nd Annual Unity Conference was held on September 8, at the UIC Forum, 725 W. Roosevelt Road.
