Snow Days Chicago drifts to Navy Pier
Chicago, IL – Putting a new twist on snow removal, the City of Chicago announced a partnership with Navy Pier for the 3rd Annual Snow Days Chicago, January 28-30, 2011, moving the festival to the pier’s Gateway Park located just west of the entrance.
Now Snow Days Chicago attendees can view the artistic sculptures, made from 10 ft. blocks of man-made snow, watch dog sled races from Green Valley Dog Drivers, delight in the excitement of the Snowboard competition and enjoy all the inside attractions of Navy Pier.
Once again, teams of artists submitted drawings of their artistic plans and the snow sculpture curator will select those who participate. The artistic portion is curated by Fran Volz of Snow Visions who created the concept after years of creating his own sculptures on his front lawn.
Last year’s winning team came to the competition from Harbin, China. “Chinese Opera” won first place ($1500 cash prize) as well as honors for being the Peoples Choce.
Additionally, the festival will include 12 teams of high school students from the Chicago Public Schools sculpting from smaller six foot blocks of snow.
Snow Days Chicago is presented by the City of Chicago and Navy Pier; the snow sculpting competition is held in collaboration with Snow Visions, Inc.
