In a prepared statement, Kirk issued the following statement:
“Today we honor a man whose life and legacy are unparalleled in American history.  His fight for racial equality launched a civil rights movement in our nation that remains one of the greatest achievements of the 20th Century.  His efforts helped ensure that the United States of America stands for freedom and justice for all, regardless of race, religion or ethnicity.  In honoring Dr. King’s life and legacy today, we reaffirm our commitment to continue his fight against racism and discrimination every day both here at home and abroad.â€
