Kirk responds to Republican Senators Meeting with President Obama on the Administration’s request to raise the Debt Ceiling
Washington, DCÂ – United States Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) released a statement following a meeting between Republican Senators and President Obama on the Administration’s request to raise the debt ceiling.Â
“Senate Republicans and the President expressed a common goal of protecting economic growth by cutting spending. Â Many of us in the room agree that any debt increase must be tied to large, comprehensive and lasting spending cuts to protect young Americans from deficits and debt. Â
“Because there is a limit to how much debt the House would even consider, I believe we have to plan for multiple debt limit bills – giving us the chance to attach multiple anti-spending reforms to any new debt.”
The meeting with Senate Republicans comes one day after a meeting between the President and Senate Democrats as both the House and the Senate continue to prepare for the pending debate on debt limit legislation.
