Jesse White encourages parishioners at Jordan Temple to become organ donors during National Donate Life Month
Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White attended service at Jordan Temple Missionary Baptist Church to encourage parishioners to register as organ and tissue donors during National Donate Life Month in April. Pastor Stephen E. Richardson (left), Secretary White and 37th Ward Alderwoman Emma Mitts (right) participated in the service to increase awareness about organ and tissue donation.
African-Americans make up 16 percent of all donors in this country but account for 20 percent of all those who receive organ transplants. To increase the likelihood of a successful transplant, a well-matched organ often comes from a donor of the same race.
