Nationwide (BlackNews.com) — Every year, many organizations and corporations give scholarships away to African American students, but often the programs are not well promoted. A new web site, BlackScholarships.org, has solved that problem. The web site publishes new scholarship opportunities every week.

African American students often suffer the most from the consequences of student debt, and many spend years repaying the debt that they owe. But the sad truth is that most of them never had to pay for college in the first place. Every year, more than $250 million in scholarships are given away to Black and other minority students.

Such scholarship programs include:

* The Generation Google Scholarship Program
* The Coca-Cola Scholars Program
* The Frederick Douglass Bicentennial Scholarship Program
* The Apple HBCU Scholarship Program
* The United Negro College Fund (UNCF)
* The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF)
* Beyonce’s BeyGOOD Foundation
* Jay-Z’s Shawn Carter Foundation
* Jill Scott’s Blues Babe Foundation
* and many others!

Scholarship awards, unlike student loans, do not have to be repaid as long as they are used towards the cost of college tuition and books. They do, however, often require an application to be submitted along with an essay submission and transcripts. But each program varies in it’s requirements.
