State universities provide free tuition waivers for qualifying senior citizens looking to pursue a degree, certificate or student at-large status. They must be at least 65 years of age, and a legal Illinois resident. Eligible seniors are expected to pay for their books and fees. The tuition waiver only covers tuition, not supplies. Seniors can take regularly scheduled courses as long as classroom space is available. If interested, a senior citizen waiver must be submitted in advance along with proof of age. Applicants must be 65 at the time of enrollment. Eligibility for waivers is subject to applicable federal, state and university regulations. For more information, contact the state university of your choice or visit one of their websites.
