Hasbrouck is a descendant of the Pullman Porter lineage

Chicago, Illinois – February 22, 2015 – Fox 32’s Dawn Hasbrouck and WVON’s Cliff Kelley — two of Chicago’s favorite media personalities  — will emcee the A Philip Randolph “Gentle Warrior” Awards Gala.” The celebration, which also will commemorate the Museum’s 20th anniversary, will be held Saturday, February 28 at the Historic Parkway Ballroom, 4455 S. King Drive. The event begins at 5PM.

Hasbrouck’s participation in the event is particularly poignant because her great grandfather, Arthur Hasbrouck, was a Pullman Porter. In addition to her Pullman Porter pedigree, Hasbrouck has an impressive background in media – thereby enhancing her role as Mistress of Ceremonies.

Dawn is an award-winning journalist who co-anchors FOX 32 News at 9 p.m. weekdays from 9 to 10 p.m. Born and raised in the city of Chicago, she made an imprint in several media markets – Hartford, Connecticut, Savannah and Lexington, Kentucky before returning home to Chicago.  While serving as an anchor and reporter at WBZ-TV (CBS), for three years, she earned an Emmy.

Dawn is a graduate of Duke University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy and a certificate in Film and Video Production. She received her Masters of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism where she was inducted into Northwestern University’s “Council of 100,” a group of the institution’s top female graduates. Dawn is also a graduate of St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago.

Joining her as Master of Ceremonies is Cliff Kelley, of WVON, affectionately known as the “Governor of Talk Radio.”

For more than 30 years, Cliff Kelley has been a distinguished veteran talk show personality and is a respected thought leader on affairs throughout the nation. This has made him a prominent figure in the ever interesting and always-controversial arena of Chicago’s political stage. Kelley’s expertise was honed through 16 years as a member of the city council, including during Mayor Harold Washington’s administration. His courage, conviction and insight make him a much sought after commentator, speaker and analyst, on local, national and worldwide issue-oriented television and talk-radio programs.

His vast knowledge, his intellect, his wit and his reputation for telling a good joke make him a perfect Master of Ceremonies.

David Peterson, Jr., president and executive director of the Museum expressed delight that Dawn Hasbrouck and Cliff Kelley will be serving as Co-Emcees. He was particularly pleased that Dawn is a playing a role in the event because, he said, she is a member of the Pullman family by virtue of her great grandfather.

“The Gentle Warrior Awards gala is being emceed by the dynamic duo of Dawn Hasbrouck and Cliff Kelley. With these two playing a critical role at the gala, the celebration is bound to be a success.”
