Floating World Gallery celebrates One-Year Anniversary of their Halsted Street Gallery

 

Free event includes a short presentation on the current exhibition a Celebratory Champagne Toast and Reception

 

Floating World Gallery (FWG) celebrates the one-year anniversary of their Halsted Street Gallery space, located at 1925 N. Halsted St., Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will provide an opportunity for guests to view “Creating What Has Never Been,” the exciting new exhibition, of Japanese post-war masterpiece paintings and contemporary ceramics. Director of Exhibitions Elias Martin will provide a short presentation on the exhibition to be followed by a celebratory champagne toast and cake. 
 
“Elias and I are excited about this opportunity to celebrate the gallery’s one-year anniversary with longtime friends, members of the community and new acquaintances alike,” says gallery owner Bill Stein.  Adds Martin, “In light of our ongoing mission to educate the public and increase awareness of the rich world of modern Japanese art, I’m especially thrilled to be able to share insights about our current groundbreaking exhibition.”

Floating World Gallery, located in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, takes its name from the English translation of “ukiyo-e”, referring to images of an evanescent, impermanent world of fleeting beauty. FWG’s current exhibition, “Creating What Has Never Been” continues through Nov. 19.  The exhibition features more than two dozen works including masterpieces in Japanese post-war paintings (including Sadamasa Motonaga’s “Untitled” work from 1963, previously exhibited at MOMA’s 1965 watershed exhibition of Japanese post-war painting), and works by some of the most sought after artists in the ceramic art world today. FWG presents “Behind Paper Walls: Self-Printed Masterworks by Jun’ichiro Sekino” Dec. 3, 2010 to Jan. 14, 2011. This exhibition, featuring an impressive selection of works, many never before exhibited, provides a keen insight into this master artist who pushed the limits of the art of woodblock printmaking and adds a new dimension to his legacy.
