Convicted Felon sentenced to 25 Years for 2006 Sexual Assault

A convicted felon pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 25 years in prison for attacking and sexually assaulting a woman in a south side alley in 2006, according to Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.

Alfredo Colunga, 33, currently on parole for unrelated charges of Possession of Controlled Substance and Escape, pled guilty to one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault for sexually assaulting a 40 year-old woman on Chicago’s south side in 2006.

According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on October 8, 2006 at 6:30 a.m. near 4200 S. Campbell as the victim was walking home from work. The defendant approached the victim from behind, grabbed her neck and pulled out a knife. Colunga told the victim that he was going to sexually assault her and she better not scream or he would cut her. The defendant then pulled the victim into an alley, pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her. During the attack Colunga repeatedly told the victim not to scream or he would kill her.

After sexually assaulting the victim, the defendant took the victim’s driver’s license and told her not to contact the police because he knows where she lives. Colunga then let the victim put her clothes on and he held her at knife point as he walked her toward her apartment building. As they reached the front gate of her apartment, the victim was able to break free and run up the stairs. The victim safely entered her apartment and called the police but the defendant fled.

Colunga was charged in 2011, after his DNA was matched to the victim’s sexual assault kit and he admitted to sexually assaulting the victim. Colunga was sentenced to the 25 year prison sentence on February 8, 2013 during a court appearance at the George Leighton Criminal Court Building.
