Congressman Gutierrez endorses Preckwinkle for Cook County Board President
Â
Alderman Toni Preckwinkle has received the official endorsement of Illinois’ highest-ranking Hispanic elected official, U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, in the Democratic primary race for Cook County Board President.
Â
Gutierrez said Preckwinkle has continually impressed him by her commitment to progressive values, “Toni Preckwinkle is the only progressive running, the only real reformer who can put an end to the status quo in Cook County. I have worked with her throughout the years and she is the right person to clean up the mess that is County Government.”
Â
Congressman Luis Gutierrez has served eight terms in the United States House of Representatives and in that time, established himself as an effective leader and energetic spokesman on behalf of his constituents of the Fourth District.
He continued, “Toni said it best – this is a Democratic primary, not an African American primary. She has been an effective, independent leader and has successfully represented a diverse constituency for almost twenty years. She is the person we need at the helm of the County Board.”
Preckwinkle has earned the endorsement of several other prominent leaders within the Hispanic community including Billy Ocasio and Aldermen Manny Flores, Ricardo Munoz, and Rey Colon.
Â
“I’m an independent, progressive reformer and I am the only candidate in this race who can say all those things. I am honored by Congressman Gutierrez’ support. He has been a prominent leader for the constituents of his district and the people of Illinois.” said Preckwinkle. “I am encouraged that, with less than two months until the primary, we are continually building momentum. We are building a broad, multi-ethnic coalition united by our determination to reinstate accountability, integrity and vision into Cook County government - to shape a better, safer, more productive future for the County.”Â
