Candidates running for the 2nd Congressional District participate in South Shore Gardens Betterment Association and CopyLine Magazine’s Candidates’ Forum

Several candidates running for the 2nd Congressional District seat left vacant by former Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr.’s  resignation participated in a forum held by South Shore Gardens Betterment Association and CopyLine Magazine.

Candidates responded to a wide-range of questions on the economy and jobs, education, our skyrocketing deficit, Defense, revitalization of the 2nd Congressional District, abortion rights (Roe  Vs. Wade), corporate tax reform, economic empowerment, and whether they supported the Peotone Airport.

They also responded to questions about Voter ID laws and voter suppression,  immigration reform, gun control, same-sex marriages, violence, foreclosures, charter schools, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

The debate forum was held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 9147 S, Jeffery Blvd. Rev. Darryl T. Powell is pastor of the church.

Johnny Acoff, Vice President of the South Shore Gardens Betterment Association, gave opening remarks and informed candidates of the program’s format.

Co-Moderators of the event were Juanita Bratcher, Editor & Publisher of CopyLine Magazine, and Chinta Strausberg, Host of the “Strausberg Report” on the PCC Network, and Editor-In-Chief of the ‘316’ Magazine.

Rev. Harold E. Bailey, President of Probation Challenge and the PCC Network,  gave prayer before and at the end of the event.

Candidates attending the forum were Anthony A, Beale, John Blyth, Patrick O. Brutus, Fatimah N. Muhammad, Larry D. Pickens, Charles Rayburn and Jonathan Vistor.
