A community designed to support and meet the mental health needs of Black women

Nationwide — Mental Health Advocate and Founder of She Matters, Jade Kearney, created this extraordinary platform in response to her own mental wellness journey, and is now set to release the She Matters App in April 2020. The App will provide a directory of licensed therapists, and provide a means to extend community interaction.

She Matters was created in 2018 by Black women, for Black women, to help navigate through their mental wellness journeys. It gives them access to a tribe that looks like them, and provides resources and access to culturally competent therapists. The She Matters community is engaged both online and offline – from virtual workshops, to live experiences.

“When I struggled through postpartum anxiety, one of the hardest things was trying to sift through all the information on the internet—much of which did not apply to me as a Black woman. The She Matters platform cuts out the middleman and gets you resources that are useful to Black women at a very crucial period in any mother’s life,” says Jade.

Mental health concerns have come to the fore last year amid the pandemic’s disproportionate effect on the Black community, and the racial trauma due to social unrest. Furthermore, Black women especially are more prone to suffer in silence when it comes to navigating depression and anxiety. And as someone who battled postpartum depression herself, Jade is on a mission to provide Black women with a supportive community and access to quality mental health care through the new She Matters App.

In the App, participants can look forward to connecting with like-minded women through a community interaction tool, discovering licensed therapists through an in-app directory, and receiving resources and content on mental health and wellness.

Jade’s genuine care and dedication to share her mental health story compels other women to acknowledge, share, and embrace their own mental wellness journeys. The She Matters App gives women of color a platform to do just that.
