Black and Indigenous Herbalists to Convene For Third Annual Conference to Preserve Historical Herbal Traditions
Nationwide (BlackNews.com) — Black and indigenous herbalists looking to amplify their knowledge of plants and herbal medicine can now register their place for the third annual conference for the Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering. This year’s conference will take place on March 26-27th 2022 from 10am to 6pm. The event will convene in-person at a private location on John’s Island, SC.
The Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering is a two-day annual conference that explores the historical and cultural uses of herbs and plant medicine in the Gullah/Geechee Nation and within the Diaspora. Touted as an educational event for Black and Indigenous Herbalists, this year’s conference will feature workshops, demonstrations, and herb walks that will appeal to all levels of students. The event will also feature an impressive line-up of speakers who will deliver presentations on Holistic skin care, plant identification, using Indigo dyeing as a form of resistance, Afrofuturism, balancing blood sugar naturally and more.
Founder of the Gullah Geechee Conference, Khetnu Nefer, is excited about this year’s event. She comments, “The Gullah Geechee herbal gathering is much more than just a conference. It’s an opportunity for black and indigenous herbalists, Gullah Geechee people and the community they serve to converge, share, connect and preserve a rich herbal and cultural legacy. We want attendees to get grounded in their herbal practice through education, fellowship, community and nature.”
But it’s not just about educating conference attendees; The Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering advocates for the preservation of the Gullah Geechee herbal culture and the bioregional ecology. Consequently, participants will have the opportunity to purchase handmade artisan herbal and body products, books, jewelry and clothing from Black and Indigenous small business owners.
Tickets to the Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering conference are available online for in-person attendance for a cost of $145 per person for the entire weekend. Sponsorship and vendor opportunities are also available. For further information, visit GullahGeecheeHerbalGathering.com
