Nationwide — Black Sustainability, Inc. proudly unveils the upcoming 8th Annual Black Sustainability Summit, set to take place from October 6th to October 8th, 2023, throughout the Metro Atlanta area. As the world’s premier gathering for sustainability practitioners of African descent, the summit continues its legacy of providing a dynamic platform for empowerment, education, and collaboration.

This year, the summit is delighted to present an unapologetic lineup of presenters of African descent, offering fresh perspectives on harnessing resources across sustainability disciplines.

Raina Turner-Greenlea, Co-founder and Executive Director of Black Sustainability, Inc., enthuses, “We are excited to bring forth the 8th Annual Black Sustainability Summit! It is a powerful testament to the solutions and growing impact frontline communities have across the Global South. Our summit remains a celebration of our collective commitment to the restoration of Mother Earth/our planet, our communities, and future generations. We hope Black and Green practitioners join us for an opportunity to deepen connections, exchange insights, and galvanize action towards a more equitable and sustainable world.”

Across three days, attendees will engage with sustainability practitioners and leaders from around the world, as they delve into hands-on workshops, impactful reports, and actionable strategies for implementing locally-driven climate and environmental solutions. The summit stands as a beacon of progress and unity, fostering a multi-day zero-waste event where like-minded individuals can connect and collaborate.

The summit’s agenda unfolds as follows:

Day 1 – Friday, October 6
Location: New Black Wall Street Market, 8109 Mall Parkway, Stonecrest, GA
Participants will have the privilege of partaking in a blend of insightful presentations and reports from frontline community-based organizations to develop a State of Black Sustainability Report, interspersed with enriching networking mixers.

Day 2 – Saturday, October 7
Location: The Promised Land at Lake Sheryl, 4540 Lee Road SW, Snellville, GA
Attendees are invited to roll up their sleeves and soak up some sun with immersive learning experiences and hands-on workshops designed for all members of the family. This day coincides with the 14th Annual Original Metro-Atlanta Collard Greens Cultural Festival in Snellville, promising an unforgettable fusion of education and cultural celebration.

Day 3 – Sunday, October 8
Location: Chattahoochee Hills Charter School, 9670 Rivertown Road, Chattahoochee Hills, GA
Participants will close out the summit with a half-day of final reports from frontline community-based organizations and next steps.

Through active participation in this year’s Black Sustainability Summit, attendees will contribute to the creation of a groundbreaking State of Black Sustainability Report. This report will serve as a platform to share scalable climate solutions, aimed at addressing pervasive challenges faced by BIPOC communities. Participants will gain invaluable insights into sustainable agricultural practices within the Black community and witness the transformative efforts of local organizations and leaders, united by their passion to restore and preserve our planet.

Mrs. Turner-Greenlea emphasizes, “Our summit stands as an indispensable event, a sacred space where Black practitioners across diverse disciplines come together to inspire, network, and collectively advance our shared goals. This gathering is a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, exchange best practices, and collaboratively design tangible solutions for the most pressing issues affecting marginalized communities. We invite all those who identify as Black and Green to join and support us this October at our Atlanta summit.”

The annual summit is now serving as a fundraiser for BSI with a portion of ticket purchases contributing toward the RBG Impact Fund to support member projects and the remaining percentage toward organizational capacity to bolster the organization’s impactful initiatives.
