Atlanta, GA (BlackNews.com)A Queens Discovery follows a father and daughters mission trip to Africa. The film is told from the perspective of 16-year-old Nzinga Anasa Braswell as she and her father participate in an annual LEAP for Ghana mission in 2015. Her journey to the country as a first time visitor gives her a unique comparison between her Black American experience as a youth and what she discovered in Africa. (Runtime 23:30).

The film is the winner of PBSs To The Contrary: All About Women International Category. It is scheduled to begin airing nationwide on December 9, 2016 (check your local listing for airtime).

I had no idea that my story would be of such interest to others. I want to give back to those girls I met in Ghana. This has turned out to be a way to do just that, says Nzinga.

Nzinga Braswell is currently a senior at North Springs Charter High School in Atlanta, Georgia. Her extra curricular activities include managing the Varsity Basketball team and participating in the HOSA-Future Health Professionals and the African American Culture Clubs. She also works part-time at a local family entertainment center, assists a local group with feeding the homeless, and participates in Fathers Incorporated’s on-going community service activities. Nzinga was recently accepted to attend Kennesaw State University in Georgia and plans to pursue a career in sports medicine.

I am so proud of Nzinga. I watched her transform over the nine days we were in Africa, says her father and Executive Director of Fathers Incorporated, Kenneth Braswell. When she said she wanted to raise funds to send girls to secondary school, it blew my heart away.

The film recently won Best Film in the Delta Sigma Theta International Film Festival in Atlanta, and was showcased at the Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival. Nzinga and her Dad can also be seen interviewed on The Tavis Smiley Show, Wednesday, November 30th (check your local listing for airtime).
