Chicago Filipino Groups and Supporters to Protest Philippines President Aquino

Protesters urge President Aquino to be accountable and “Resign Now!”

Picket Today, Wednesday, May 6, 6:00 p.m., at the JW Marriott Hotel,151 W Adams St, in Chicago

The National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON) and AnakBayan Chicago will hold a picket line today in Chicago to protest against the visit by Philippines President Benigno S. Aquino III.

A crisis has gripped Aquino’s presidency, touched off by his lack of compassion and leadership in the case of Mary Jane Veloso, the Filipina migrant worker who faced death by firing squad in Indonesia for a crime she didn’t commit. This is only the latest round of controversies, which include his mishandling of super typhoon Haiyan in 2013; and his continued pursuit of the counter-insurgency war in Mindanao, which led to a botched police operation in January 2015, killing at least 66 people including civilians and children.

Nerissa Allegretti, Midwest Coordinator for NAFCON, “We condemn his record of human rights abuses and corruption.”
