A specialized task force organized by Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez to tackle the crime of organized retail theft and fencing was recognized for excellence in law enforcement at a recent ceremony sponsored by the Cook County Crime Stoppers Organization.

Members of the Cook County Regional Organized Crime Task Force (CCROC) received the Crime Stoppers’ 2014 Public Sector Award for their collaborative efforts to combat the growing crime of organized retail theft and fencing.

CCROC is a unique public-private task force comprised of more than 1,000 members made up of law enforcement agencies, retail partners, financial institutions, manufacturers and other industry experts from Cook County and jurisdictions throughout the Midwest.  The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office was the first prosecutor’s office in the nation to organize such a task force to combat the escalating crimes of organized retail theft and fencing using proactive crime fighting strategies and shared intelligence.

The awards were presented at the Crime Stoppers Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 4, 2014 at the Marriott in downtown Chicago.
