North Hollywood, CA (BlackNews.com) — El Portal Theatre and Focus Media- Johnny Brenner & Robert Keely – proudly present a fresh new revival of Mitch Hale’s Award Winning Drama BUFFALO SOLDIER starring Tony Williams, William Catlett, Kendall Johnson, Daniel Billet and Wasim No’mani , Playing through November 30, 2014 in the historic El Portal Theatre at the Monroe Forum, in the NOHO Arts District, North Hollywood, CA.

This production, directed by Sara Wagner is a reworking of the 1995 NAACP Award winning play. The play written by Mitch Hale was originally directed by Jeff Murray at Theater/Theatre in Hollywood and went on to see productions in Seattle, Miami and at Yale.

BUFFALO SOLDIER is stirring drama that takes place when, in the summer of 1874, three soldiers of the “all negro” tenth cavalry and their white commander go on a dangerous reconnaissance mission to establish an outpost in the heart of Comanche territory. Shortly after making camp they inadvertently capture a Comanche brave and soon discover that he is none other than Chief Quanah Parker, the government’s most wanted renegade. As the night grows darker, the life and death stakes get higher. The tensions that erupt are multilevel and multiracial: between the black soldiers and their white captain, between the soldiers and the defiant warrior-and mostly, among the soldiers themselves.
Critical acclaim for BUFFALO SOLDER:

“GRIPPING! A wham, bam, thrilling adventure that rings with clarion urgency!” — The LA Times

“TRUER WEST …casts an illuminating light on the lives of these unsung heroes with humor, pathos and insight.” — The LA Weekly

“INSPIRATIONAL AND INSPIRED – Mitch Hale’s deep and vibrant play is first and foremost a compelling human story…” — The Seattle Stranger
