action alert!

In Southern California, a police officer was caught on camera tackling a woman and beating her into the ground. We cannot tolerate this blatant abuse of authority by those supposed to uphold the law.

Marlene Pinnock, a 51-year-old grandmother in Southern California, was certainly behaving strangely. Barefoot and alone on the highway, she wandered in and out of lanes, clearly confused. Marlene may have needed help. Instead, a California Highway Patrol officer tackled her to the ground before punching her nine or ten times in the head.

The officer, whose attack was captured on camera, chased Marlene down, hitting her more than half a dozen times in the head before another officer came to help restrain her. The officer later claimed that Pinnock had become “combative.” Marlene was then arrested and put on a “mental health hold” for 72 hours.

Marlene was in a state of confusion and shock, and may have been ill. Even if she had been “combative,” it is highly unlikely that she would have been able to pose any serious danger to the officer. She was probably scared and in pain. But rather than come to her aid as someone who’s supposed to “serve and protect,” the CHP officer brutally beat her.

We have to stand up to demonstrate that this abuse of authority won’t go unpunished. Demand a full investigation into the incident and punishment for the police officer who violently assaulted a California grandmother.
