Chicago man charged in child pornography case

Posted by Admin On January - 16 - 2014

A Chicago man appeared in bond court, charged with possession of child pornography after investigators recovered numerous videos depicting children engaging in sex acts on a computer in his home, according to the Office of Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.

Miguel Angel Villegas, 46, of the 10100 block of South Avenue J, was charged with Possession of Child Pornography (possession of videos; depiction of child under 13 years of age), a Class 2 Felony. If convicted Villegas faces up to 7 years in prison.

According to prosecutors, a search warrant was executed at Villegas’ residence following an investigation by the Chicago Police Department. During the search, officers recovered a computer from Villegas’ residence. A forensic review of the computer revealed videos depicting young children engaging in a variety of sex acts.

Villegas was arrested by the Chicago Police Department yesterday (Jan. 14) and appeared in bond court today at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building in Chicago before Judge Israel Desierto who set bond at $50,000. Villegas’ next court date is Feb. 5th.

The public is reminded that criminal charging documents contain allegations that are not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the state has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
