Artists and activists come together to create a concert benefiting the health care hunger strikers “Luchando Por La Vidaâ€â€”a group of undocumented individuals who have been denied organ transplants and critical care because of their legal status.
The event will be held Friday, September 6th, at Chi-town Futbal, 2255 S Throop St., Chicago, IL, 8 P.M. – 12 Midnight. Suggested Donation: $5-$10
Shining Soul (Straight outta occupied O’odham territory in southern Arizona, Shining Soul is a grassroots duo based in Phoenix. They use music to talk about border militarization, the criminalization of people of color, police brutality and the desecration of sacred places.)
Emcee Invincible (Revolutionary emcee from Detroit, Invincible is a co-founder of EMERGENCE Media and a youth worker with Detroit Summer, a multi-racial, inter-generational collective in Detroit that is transforming communities through youth facilitative leadership, creativity and collective action.)
Additional artists include Cihuatl Ce (fierce female emcee from Los Angeles), La Armada (Chicago, Dominican hard-core fury), and Dale Shine (Ruidoson, Doombia, Merengue Dubstep).
Organized by Moratorium on Deportations Campaign (MDC), artists from all over the country are coming together to participate in this cross-genre music uprising in solidarity with Hunger Strike for Health Care/â€Luchando por la Vida†— fighting for health care for all people, regardless of immigration status, criminal record or ability to pay. All proceeds will go to supporting the surviving members of Luchando Por La Vida as they petition their cases for critical health care services and organ transplants at Chicago-area hospitals.
This event is organized in conjunction with the “Ni Vencidos, Ni Vendidos: Race, Border Walls and the Politics of not Selling Out†conference and forum scheduled for Saturday, September 7th at Northeastern Illinois University. Artists from the event will also participate and facilitate key workshops at this forum. For more information, visit: http://moratoriumondeportations.org/riseup/
