CHICAGO, IL – Supporting nutrition education initiatives and physical activity programs helps people understand the importance of consuming a sensible, balanced diet and maintaining energy balance.

Through the generous support from the Coca Cola Foundation, Chicago based Vive En Forma has been awarded a $100, 000 community grant.  Vive En Forma is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate Latinos in embracing healthier and more active lifestyles.  “Get Fit Live Fit.”

This grant makes a significant impact by creating opportunities for nutrition education and physical activity program expansion throughout Chicagoland communities, schools and organizations says Cesar Rolon, President of the Vive En Form organization.

A formal grant check will be presented on Friday, November 16, 2012, 10am, at the Illinois State Legislative Caucus Conference at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center 5555 N. River Road. Rosemont, IL.

In the belief that a healthy lifestyle leads to less physical and mental disease, the mission of Vive en Forma, a 501(c) 3 organization, is to educate and motivate the Hispanic community to achieve a healthy lifestyle to prevent life-threatening and debilitating illnesses, in particular, diabetes. Obesity in Illinois

Over the past 15 years, Illinois has seen its obesity rate increase 80 percent, which is relatively in line with the vast majority of the rest of the country. Currently Illinois has broken into the top half of the annual rankings of the most obese states ranking 23rd among the 50 states and is tied for fourth amongst 10 – 17 year olds.
